Jabir bin Abdullah narrates

“We were digging (the trench) on the day of Al-Khandaq ( i.e. Trench ) . For three days we had not eaten anything and were unable to get any food. Then in the trench I found a large solid piece of rock , so I went to RasoolAllah and said ‘O the Messenger of Allah  A solid rock has appeared inside the trench, I have sprinkled water on it.’ So the Prophet stood up and a stone was tied to his stomach (from hunger). He picked up a spade or shovel then he struck it three times with ‘Bismillah’. As a result, the stone was crushed and turned into sand.

When I saw this condition of RasoolAllah , I said to him ‘O Messenger of Allah, allow me to go home for a while’, so he gave me permission . Then I went to my wife, I said ‘May your mother bereave you! I saw the Prophet (ﷺ) in a state that I cannot bear with, Do you have something (to eat)?’ She said ‘ I have just one Sāʿ (measure) of barley and a baby goat.’ Jabir said “We crushed barley and slaughtered the baby goat, I removed the skin from it and placed it in a pot, and I kneaded the dough, then I came back to RasoolAllah . After staying with him for some time I asked permission from him to go home a second time. He gave me permission. When I came back I saw that the flour was ready for baking, I ordered my wife to make bread, and I mounted the pot on the three stones used for cooking. Then I came back to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said “We have got a little food prepared for you, if you seem it right, you may bring one or two men along with you (for the food).” The Prophet (ﷺ) asked, “How much is that food?” I said, “A Sāʿ (measure) of barley and a baby goat’ . He said, ” Tell your wife not to remove the earthenware pot from the fire and not to take out any bread from the oven till I reach there. Then he ﷺ said (to all his companions), “Let us go to Jabir’s house”.

Jabir said:” I felt such embarrassment that only Allah knows. ” I said to my wife ” May your mother bereave you! RasoolAllah ﷺ is coming with all his companions.” She said, “Did the Prophet (ﷺ) ask you how much food you had? I replied “Yes”. Then she said, “Allah and His Messenger know best. Clearly you told him how much food we have.” Jabir said ” As soon as she completed saying, it removed all the worries from my heart” I said to her ” You said the truth.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him ﷺ ) came and entered. Then he told the companions: ‘Do not crowd.’ Then he prayed for blessing in the pot and the bread in the oven.

Jabir said:” Then we took the bread from the oven and meat from the pot and we tore the bread into pieces and made Tharid (meat and bread pieces mixed together) and gave them to eat. Then RasoolAllah ﷺ said ” Seven or eight people should sit at the platter.”

When they had eaten we opened the pot and the oven and found both of them were still full. We continued serving the people and whenever we opened the dish and the oven we found it full as before. This happened until all the Muslims were satisfied and there still remained some food left in it. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to us: ‘Many people are hungry, therefore, You eat yourselves and you feed others. ‘ So on that day we ate and fed others many times.

Aiman said Jabir told him that they were eight hundred or three hundred of them. Aiman said: I don’t know which of these is true.

Grade: Isnad Dai’f. However, it is sahih through different chains as in Dalail an Nubuwwah .
