It is reported that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him, said:

“Jibril appeared to me and said: “ Oh, Muhammad, live as much as you want, for you will die! Love whomever you want, for you will part with him! Do whatever you want, you will be rewarded for it! And know that the dignity of the believer/Mu’min is in his performing nightly prayers (tahajjud), and his honor lies in the fact that he is independent from (asking) people.

This hadith was transferred by al-Shirazi to al-Alqab, al-Hakim 4 / 324-325, al-Bayhaqi in Shu’ab al-Iman 10541, Abu Nu’aym to Hilyatul-auliyya 3/253 from the words of Sahl ibn Sa’d; at-Tayalisi 1755, al-Bayhaqyi in Shu’ab al-Iman 10540 from the words of Jabir; Abu Nu’aym in “Hilyatul-auliyya” 3/202 with the words of Ali, similar hadith in Shu’ab al-Iman 10145

Al-Hakim called the hadith authentic and al-Dhahabi agreed with him.
