إذا أطال أحدكم الغيبة فلا يطرق أهله ليلا» .

It is narrated from the words of Jabir ibn ‘Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with them both, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“If any of you is absent for a long time (from his home), let him not return to his family at night.”
This hadith was narrated by Ahmad (3/396), al-Bukhari (5244) and Muslim (715).

Imam al-Bukhari called the chapter in which he quoted this hadith as follows: “A man should not return home after a long absence at night, so that it does not turn out as if he suspects something suspicious (of his wives) or is looking for their shortcomings.”
