By almaas Nov 20, 2022

أتُرِيدُ أنْ تُميتَها موْتاتٍ؟ هَلاَّ حَدَّدْتَ شَفْرَتَكَ قَبْلَ أنْ تُضْجِعَهَا

(ك) عن ابن عباس.)

It is reported that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him, said:
“Do you want kill her twice? Wouldn’t it be better to sharpen the blade before you knocked it down ?”.

This hadeeth was transmitted by at-Tabarani to Mu’jam al-Kabir 11916 and al-Ausat 3590, al-Hakim 4/231, 233, according to Ibn ‘Abbas.

Al-Hakim said: “A reliable hadith corresponding to the conditions of al-Bukhari,” and al-Zahabi agreed with him.

Sheikh al-Albani called the hadith authentic. See “Sahih al-jami ‘al-sagir” 93, “Sahih al-targib wa-t-tarhib” 1090, “al-Silsila as-sahiha” 24.

Ibn ‘Abbas said that (once) the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) passed by a man who put his foot on the neck of a ram and sharpened his blade, while the ram looked at him. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him, said: “Do you want him to survive two deaths? Wouldn’t it be better to sharpen the blade before you tumble it down?
