Sahih al-Jami ‘as-Saghir Hadith No. 465

By almaas Nov 11, 2021

465 – It is reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“If someone demands payment for a dog, put dust in his hand.” This hadith was narrated by Abu Dawood 3482 and al-Bayhaqi 6/6 from the words of Ibn ‘ Abbas.

Sheikh al-Albani called the hadith authentic. See Sahih al-jami ‘as-saghir 465.

_________________________________________________________________

In the version of al-Bayhaqi it is said: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade (taking) money for wine, and money earned from fornication, and money received for a dog and said:“ If (someone) asks payment for the dog … ””.

Al-Khattabi said: “The point (to impose) dust here is deprivation and disappointment, as they say:” He has nothing in his hands but dust. ” … Some righteous predecessors believed that one should apply the external meaning of the hadith and one should (literally) put dust in the hands (of the one who demands payment for the dog). See ‘Awn al-Ma’bud’.
