إذا أفْطَرَ أحَدُكُمْ فَلْيُفْطِرْ على تَمْرٍ فإِنَّهُ بَرَكَةٌ فإنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ تَمْراً فَلْيُفْطِرْ على المَاءِ فإنَّهُ طَهُورٌ

It is narrated from the words of Salman ibn ‘Amir ad-Dabbi, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“When one of you breaks fast, let him break his fast with dates, for, truly, (in them -) is / baraka /, and if he does not find dates, then with water, for, verily, it is purifying.”
This hadith was narrated by Ahmad 4/17, Abu Dawud 2355, at-Tirmidhi 658, al-Nasai 5/92, Ibn Madjah 1699, Ibn Khuzaimah 2193, Ibn Hibban 3344.
Sheikh al-Albani called the hadith authentic. See Sahih al-Jami ‘as-saghir 363, al-Irwa 922, Mishkat al-Masabih 1990, Sahih at-targib wa-t-tarhib 892.
Later, Sheikh al-Albani revised this hadith and called it weak in “Silsilah ad-da’ifa” (6383), after which, at his behest, it was transferred to the book “Da’if al-jami ‘as-saghir” under No. 389.
This may be because Imam Nasa’i mentioned that none narrated it with the extra wording “blessing except through Sufyan ath Thawri“. However rest of the hadith is true.
