«إذا استيقظ أحدكم من نومه فلا يدخل يده في الإناء حتى يغسلها ثلاثا فإن أحدكم لا يدري أين باتت يده» .
(صحيح) … [مالك الشافعي حم ق 4] عن أبي هريرة. صحيح السنن 938, الإرواء 21, 164)

It is narrated from the words of Abu Huraira that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“When one of you wakes up from his sleep, he must not put his hand in a utensil till he washed it three times, for he does not know where his hand was (while he slept)”

This hadith was narrated by Malik 37, al-Shafi’i, Ahmad 2/471, al-Bukhari 162, Muslim 278, Abu Dawud 103, at-Tirmidhi 24, an-Nasai 1, Ibn Majah 395, ad-Darimi 766, Ahmad 2 / 241, Ibn Khuzaimah 99, Ibn Hibban 1062, al-Bazzar 7637, al-Bayhaqi 1/45, at-Tabarani in al-Awsat 949, ad-Daraqutni 130, Abu Ya’la 5961.
