451 – It is reported that Salama ibn Qais al-Ashja’i said:
“The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:” When you make ablution, rinse your nose with water, and if you cleanse yourself with stones (from impurities after relieving yourself), use an odd number (stones [1] ). ” This hadith was narrated by Ahmad 4/313, at-Tirmidhi 27, an-Nasai 1/67, Ibn Majah 406, Ibn Hibban 1436, Ibn Abi Shayba 274.
Sheikh al-Albani called the hadith authentic. See Saheeh al-jami ‘as-saghir 451.
[1] That is, three, five, etc., since in a hadith transmitted from Salman it is reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Let none of you purify (after a bowel movement) less than three stones.” This hadith was narrated by Muslim 262.
