«أدوا صاعا من بر أو قمح بين اثنين أو صاعا من تمر أو صاعا من شعير على كل حر وعبد صغير وكبير» .

It is reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
” Give (zakat al-Fitr) in the form of one sa ‘wheat for two, or one sa’ dates, or barley for every free or slave, small or old . ”
This hadith was narrated by Ahmad 5/432, ad-Darakutni 2141 and ad-Diya al-Maqdisi from the words of ‘Abdullah ibn Sa’lyab. The reliability of the hadith was confirmed by Imam at-Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud and Ibn as-Sakan.
Sheikh al-Albani called the hadith authentic. See Sahih al-jami ‘as-saghir 241, al-Silsilah al-sahiha 1177.
