It is reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“At times it comes to me like the ringing of a bell and that is most severe for me and when it is over I retain that (what I had received in the form of wahi), and at times an Angel in the form of a human being comes to me (and speaks) and I retain whatever he speaks.”
This hadith was narrated by Malik (475), Ahmad (6/158), al-Bukhari (2), Muslim (2333), at-Tirmidhi (3634), al-Nasai (2/146), Ibn Hibban (38) from the words ‘Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her.
At-Tabarani in his version at the end gave an addition:
“… and it’s easier for me.”
The hadith is authentic. See Sahih al-Jami ‘as-saghir (213), Sahih an-Nasai (932, 933), Mishkatul-masabih (5844), Mukhtasar Muslim (1572).
‘Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, said: “And I had to see how on very cold days revelations were sent down to him, and after the completion of the sending down sweat always poured from his forehead.” al-Bukhari (2).
