أحصوا هلال شعبان لرمضان» .

Abu Hurairah narrated that : the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“Count the (the appearances of) the crescent of Sha’ban for Ramadan.”
This hadith was narrated by at-Tirmidhi (687), al-Hakim (1/425), al-Bayhaqi (4/206) from the words of Abu Hurayra, may Allah be pleased with him.
Al-Hakim said: “An authentic hadith that meets the conditions of Muslim,” and al-Dhahabi agreed with him.
Sheikh al-Albani called the hadith good. See Sahih al-Jami ‘as-saghir (198), Tahrij Mishkatul-masabih (1916), al-Silsilah al-sahiha (565).
