أحب العباد إلى الله تعالى أنفعهم لعياله
(حسن) … [عبد الله في زوائد الزهد] عن الحسن مرسلا. الروض النضير 481)

It is reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“The most beloved slaves for Almighty Allah are the most beneficial for their family.”

This hadith was narrated by ‘Abdullah (ibn Ahmad ibn Hanbal) in Zawayed al-Zuhd from the words of al-Hasan as mursal hadith [1] to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).

Sheikh al-Albani called the hadith good. See Sahih al-Jami ‘as-saghir (172), ar-Raud an-nadir (481).

Allah Almighty said:  “Do good to your parents, relatives, orphans, the poor, neighbors from among your relatives and neighbors who are not your relatives and companions nearby”  (al-Nisa, 4: 36).

Ibn Abi Leyla about the words: “to the companions who are nearby”, said: “This is the wife.” Ibn Abi ad-Dunya in Kitab al-‘Yyal (477).

Lakyit ibn Mashsha said: “Once I stayed at Abu Umama al-Bahili, may Allah be pleased with him, in Khums. And once he said: “I hate a person who is a guest in his family!” He was asked: “How can a person be a guest in his family?” He replied: “This is a man with a harsh, nasty disposition towards his family members. When he enters the house, his wife, lamb, servant and cat are afraid of him. They all fear that evil will befall them from him before he leaves home. Such a person is like a guest in his family. ” Ibn Jarir at-Tabari in Tahzib al-Asar / Musnad ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab / (1/417, no. 692).

[1] That is, al-Hasan al-Basri, who was a follower of the Companions, transmitted this hadith without mentioning the name of the Companion or the one from whom he heard it.
