أخبرنا أبو عبد الله الحافظ ، ثنا علي بن حمشاذ العدل ، ثنا عبيد بن عبد الواحد بن شريك ، ثنا يحيى بن بكير قال : حدثني الليث ، عن يزيد بن أبي حبيب ، ثنا الجلاح أبو كثير ، أن ابن سلمة المخزومي حدثه ؛ أن المغيرة بن أبي بردة أخبره : أنه سمع أبا هريرة يقول : كنا عند رسول الله – صلى الله عليه وسلم – يوما فجاءه صياد ، فقال : يا رسول الله ، إنا ننطلق في البحر ، نريد الصيد فيحمل معه أحدنا الإداوة ، وهو يرجو أن يأخذ الصيد قريبا ، فربما وجده كذلك ، وربما لم يجد الصيد حتى يبلغ من البحر مكانا لم يظن أن يبلغه ، فلعله يحتلم أو يتوضأ ، فإن اغتسل أو توضأ بهذا الماء ، فلعل أحدنا يهلكه العطش ، فهل ترى في ماء البحر أن نغتسل به أو نتوضأ به إذا خفنا ذلك ؟ فزعم أن رسول الله – صلى الله عليه وسلم – قال : ” اغتسلوا منه وتوضئوا به ، فإنه الطهور ماؤه الحل ميتته ” .
We heard Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz heard from Ali bin Hamashad from Ubaid bin Abdul Wahid from yahya bin Bakir ….. from abu barda from abu huraira: We were with the messanger of Allah ﷺ when one day when a fisherman came to us and said Ya! rasool Allah sometimes because of fishing wo go out in the sea hoping to catch fishes, and often carry a bag of water with us and mostly we catch fish in near vicinity but sometimes it so happens that to catch fish we travel far and wide and reach places we did not intend in the first place, if in this situation ihtilam happens (noctural emmission) or if our wudu breaks and then if he makes ghusl or wudu with the water he brought then someone from us may die due to terminal dehydration. What is your ruling on using sea water? What if we use this sea water for ghusl and wudu if we fear such situation? RasoolAllah replied ” Use this water for Ghusl and wudhu as its water is pure (tahir) and its dead is halal for you1 “
