It is reported that Mu’az ibn Jabal said:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him, said:
‘Beware of the three things which provoke curses: Relieving oneself in watering places (ponds etc.), in the of shade (of the tree) and in the middle of the street (or roads).‘
This hadeeth was transmitted by Abu Dawud 26, Ibn Majah 328, al-Baykhaky 1/97, Ibn Hibban 1415, al-Hakim 1/273, who said: “Authentic hadith”, and al-Zahabi agreed with him.

Al-Munawi said: “ in the shade ”- refers to where people gather for what’s permissible, etc., every place that they choose to solve their everyday problems that are permitted (by Sharia).” See Faydul Qadir 1 / 136-137.
