Narrated Abu Huraira, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

“Beware of the forbidden, and you shall be the most worshipping among people, be content with what Allah has given you, and you will be the richest among people. Be kind to your neighbor, and you shall be a believer, love for people what you love for yourself, and you will be a Muslim. Laugh less, for truly frequent laughter kills the heart. ”

This hadeeth was transmitted by Ahmad (2/310), al-Tirmidhi (2305), Ibn Majah (4217), al-Baykhaky in Shu’ab al-Iman (9543)

Sheikh al-Albani called the hadith good. See “Sahih al-Jami ‘al-sagir” (100), “Tahridge mushkilatul-fakar” (17), “al-Silsila as-sahih” (930).

This hadith is Dai’f according to majority of Ahle Hadith Ulema. al-Tirmidhi (2305) is classified as Dai’f by Darussalam. Imam Tirmidhi himself has declared it as Gharib (strange) as there is no link between Al Hasan Al Basri and Abu Huraira as they didn’t meet. Ibn Majah (4217) hadith is also Dai’f.
The part where “.. Laugh less, for truly frequent laughter kills the heart.” is (Hasan) see Ibn Majah (4193).
