Abu Hurayrah is reported to have said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“Call upon Allah, being certain of a response, and know that Allah will not answer a supplication from a negligent and heedless heart.”.
This hadith was narrated by at-Tirmidhi 3479, al-Hakim 1/294, at-Tabarani in ad-Du’a’39.
Sheikh al-Albani called the hadith good. See Silsilah as-sahiha 594, Sahih al-jami ‘as-sagyir 245.

Note: In it is Salih al Marri who is rejected. Another route is through Ibn Lahiah and he is also weak. As such you will find that this hadith is weakened by Al-Dhahabi and others.
Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “Know that the purpose of prayer is the presence of the heart. ” See Al-Azkar, p. 356.
Some salaf said: “The answer to the du’a may be late due to the fact that his path is blocked by sins.”
