It is reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“Choose four of them and divorce the rest.” This hadith was narrated by Abu Dawood 2241 from the words of al-Harith ibn Zayd al-Assadi.
Sheikh al-Albani called the hadith authentic. See Saheeh al-jami ‘as-saghir 222.

These words the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to al-Haris ibn Zayd al-Asadi when he converted to Islam and said that he had eight wives.
