اجعلوا بينكم وبين الحرام سترا من الحلال من فعل ذلك استبرأ لعرضه ودينه, ومن أرتع فيه كان كالمرتع إلى جنب الحمى يوشك أن يقع فيه, وإن لكل ملك حمى وإن حمى الله في الأرض محارمه» .

It is reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“Make between yourself and unlawful or haram a barrier from what is permitted or halal . Whoever does this will defend his honor and his religion, and the one who begins to live freely is like a shepherd who grazes (his flock) near a reserved place and is about to find himself there. Indeed, each ruler has his own reserved place, and, truly, the reserved place of Allah on earth is that which He has forbidden . ”
This hadith was narrated by Ibn Hibban (5569), at-Tabarani in al-Mu’jam al-Kabir and Abu Nu’aym in Khilyatul-awliya (5/121) from the words of Nu’man ibn Bashir.
Sheikh al-Albani called the hadith authentic. See Sahih al-Jami ‘as-saghir (152), al-Silsilah al-sahiha (896).
