Zakat al-Fitr is an obligation upon every Muslim.

Ibn ‘Umar said, “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) obligated Zakat al-Fitr as one sa of dates or barley. It is a must upon every slave and free person, male and female, young or old of the Muslims. He ordered that it should be given before going out to perform the ‘Eid prayer.” Recorded by Bukhari. Muslim, Tirmidhi, Abu Dawood, Nasá’i.
