قال ابن عيينه: كان من دعاء مُطَرَّف بن عبد الله:
اللهم اني استغفرك مما تبت اليك منه ثم عدت فيه, وأستغفرك مما جعلته لك على نفسى ثم لم أفِ لك به, وأستغفرك مما زعمت أني اردت به وجهك; فخالط قلبي منه ما قد علمتَ
O Allah, I seek your forgiveness from that which I repented from and then returned to.
I seek your forgiveness from commitments I made to You, and then I did not fulfill them.
I seek your forgiveness from good deeds I did assuming they are sincerely for your sake, then my sincerity was ruined with that which you know.
