Is it allowed to say “ _Assalam ala Manittaba al huda_ ” to a nonmuslim?

Answered by Shaykh Ibn al Uthaymeen:

“It’s not allowed for a human to give salam to a Muslim with the term, ” _Assalam ala Manittaba al huda_ “ because this phrase was uttered by the Rasul ﷺ when he wrote to nonmuslims. And your brother is a Muslim so say to him,”Assalamu alaykum”. And if you say, “Assalam ala Manittaba al Huda” it necessitates that your brother doesn’t follow the guidance (i.e Islam).

And if there are Muslims and Christians and one wants to send salam on them its customary to say,“Assalamu alaykum” and those who are addressed by it are Muslims only.“
