Exaggerated and Pretentious Rhyming Can Prevent Du’ā’ From Being Answered
Al-Qurṭubī رحمه الله mentioned while explaining the Āyah, “Invoke your Lord with humility and in secret. Surely, He likes not the transgressors.” • [8:55]
He mentioned various types of transgression in du’ā’ and said,
“And from them, is that a person supplicates with what is neither from the Book nor the Sunnah; choosing baseless rhyming words that he found in some books which have no foundation or origin. And he makes his call, leaving off that which the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ supplicated. And all of this prevents the du’ā’ from being answered.”
