It is reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“When you (stand for prayer), turning your face to the qibla, say“ Allahu Akbar ”, and then read the Mother of the Scripture [1] and what you wish (from the Koran). When you go for Ruku’, put your hands on your knees and at the same time keep your back straight and and stretch out your back[2]. When you raise your head, straighten your back so that your joints return to their previous state. When you prostrate to the ground, then do it completely( so that you are at rest), and when you sit down, sit on your left thigh and then act in this way, performing each rak’at and prostration ”.

This hadith was narrated by Ahmad 4/340 and Ibn Hibban 1787 from the words of Rifa’a ibn Rafi ‘al-Zurak’i.

Sheikh al-Albani called the hadith authentic. See Saheeh al-jami ‘as-saghir 324, Saheeh Abi Daud 806.
