Upon A Woman Is To Avoid Walking In The Middle Of The Road | Intermingling Of Men And Women Is Not Permissible

قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : ليس للنساء وسط الطريق.

The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: “It is not for the women (to walk in) the middle of the path.”

قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : استأخرن ، فإنه ليس لكن أن تحققن الطريق ، عليكن بحافات الطريق

فكانت المرأة تلتصق بالجدار حتى إن ثوبها ليتعلق بالجدار من لصوقها به.

The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: “Draw back! you must not embrace (walk in the middle of) the road; upon you is to keep to the sides of the road. Then the women were keeping so close to the wall that their garment was rubbing against it.”

Imaam Abū Dāwūd رحمه الله wrote in its Sharḥ: “That from the manners of a woman’s walking with men on the road is, that she DOES NOT walk in the middle of the path, wherever on the path there is (presence) of men, and she ONLY walks on the SIDE of the road for the middle of the path is specified for men only.”
