Muhammad Ibn Fahdi al Madiniyyu said that ʿUtbah Al-Ghulam used to spend the whole night praying and when he was unoccupied, he would raise his head up to the sky and say, “If You torture me, I love You. If You have mercy upon me, I love You too”.
(Ibn al-Qayyim, Ijtimāʿ al-Juyūsh 2/280)
