It was said to Ḥasan (al-Baṣrī): “Should one of us not feel too shy to ask his Lord to forgive his sin, then do it again, then ask for forgiveness, then do it again?”
وَقِيلَ لِلْحَسَنِ: أَلَا يَسْتَحْيِي أَحَدُنَا مِنْ رَبِّهِ يَسْتَغْفِرُ مِنْ ذُنُوبِهِ، ثُمَّ يَعُودُ، ثُمَّ يَسْتَغْفِرُ، ثُمَّ يَعُودُ،
He said: “The Shayṭān wishes that you would have this attitude, so do not tire of asking for forgiveness.”
فَقَالَ: وَدَّ الشَّيْطَانُ لَوْ ظَفِرَ مِنْكُمْ بِهَذِهِ، فَلَا تَمَلُّوا الِاسْتِغْفَارَ
