Al-Imām ibn al-Qayyim [may Allāh have mercy on him] said:
“[True] fasting is when the limbs abstain from sin and the stomach abstains from food and drink. As for food and drink, it can break the fast or ruin it. Therefore, sins can cut off its rewards and ruin its fruits; thus making him among the status of the one who had not fasted at all!”
