You can’t hit your wife with anything more than a tooth stick!

‎عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ وَاضْرِبُوهُنَّ قَالَ ضَرْبًا غَيْرَ مُبَرِّحٍ قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ مَا الضَّرْبُ غَيْرُ الْمُبَرِّحِ قَالَ بِالسِّوَاكِ وَنَحْوِهِ

A man asked Ibn ‘Abbas about the verse, “And strike them,” ● 4:34

Ibn ‘Abbas said, “It is a striking without severity.”

I said to Ibn ‘Abbas, “What is a striking without severity?”

Ibn ‘Abbas said, “It is with a tooth stick or something similar.”
