✒ RIghts Of Husband Over His Wife
Prophet Muḥammad Ṣallallāhu-ʿAlaihi Wa Sallam said:
“The right of a husband over his wife is such that if she were to lick her husband’s sore which is oozing pus; (even then) she hasn’t paid his due right.”
3148 – «حق الزوج على زوجته أن لو كانت به قرحة فلحستها[1] ما أدت حقه» .

1934 – (13) [حسن صحيح] وعن أبي سعيد الخدري رضي الله عنه قال:
أتى رجل بابنته إلى رسول الله – صلى الله عليه وسلم -، فقال: إن ابنتي هذه أبت أن تتزوج؛ فقال لها رسول الله – صلى الله عليه وسلم -:
“أطيعي أباك”.
فقالت: والذي بعثك بالحق لا أتزوج حتى تخبرني ما حق الزوج على زوجته؟ قال:
“حق الزوج على زوجته؛ لو كانت به قرحة فلحستها، أو انتثر منخراه صديدا أو دما ثم ابتلعته ما أدت حقه”.
قالت: والذي بعثك بالحق لا أتزوج أبدا. فقال النبي – صلى الله عليه وسلم -:
“لا تنكحوهن إلا بإذنهن”.
رواه البزار بإسناد جيد رواته ثقات مشهورون، وابن حبان في “صحيحه”.
1934 – On the authority of Abu Saeed Al-Khudri, may God be pleased with him, who said:
A man brought his daughter to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) – and he said: This daughter of mine refuses to marry; The Messenger of God – may God bless him and grant him peace – said to her:
“Obey your father.” She said: By Him who sent you with the truth, I will not marry until you tell me what is the right of the husband over his wife? He said: “The husband’s right over his wife is such that if he had an ulcer and she licked it, or his nostrils spread pus or blood and then she swallowed it, she would not fulfill his right.”[1]
She said: By Him who sent you with the truth, I will never marry. The Prophet – may God’s prayers and peace be upon him – said : “Do not marry them without their permission.”
Sheikh al-Albani said: Al-Bazzar narrated it with a good chain of narrators, with well-known trustworthy narrators, and Ibn Hibban in his Sahih. Also in Ibn Hibban 4163, Mustadrak al Haakim hadith no: 2821, Musnad Ahmad (12614) and Darqutni 3571 and 3530, Ibn Abi Shaybah 12994.

[1]The meaning of this sentence is not that the wife should lick the wounds of her husband or swallow the blood which flows from his nose, but this is a very explicit imagery to show the great right of the husband over his wife.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: If any woman asks her husband for divorce without some strong reason, the odour of Paradise will be forbidden to her.

Narrated Qays ibn Sa’d:
I went to al-Hirah and saw them (the people) prostrating themselves before a satrap of theirs, so I said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) has most right to have prostration made before him. When I came to the Prophet (ﷺ), I said: I went to al-Hirah and saw them prostrating themselves before a satrap of theirs, but you have most right, Messenger of Allah, to have (people) prostrating themselves before you. He said: Tell me , if you were to pass my grave, would you prostrate yourself before it? I said: No. He then said: Do not do so. If I were to command anyone to make prostration before another I would command women to prostrate themselves before their husbands, because of the special right over them given to husbands by Allah.
