It is reported that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:
“Fear Allah, perform your five (prescribed) prayers, fast during your month (Ramadan), pay zakat from your property, as kindness[1] to yourselves, obey your rulers and you will enter your Lord’s paradise.”
This hadith was given by at-Tirmizi 616, Ibn Hibban 4563, al-Hakim 1/52 according to Abu Umama.
[1] with the intention of purifying the soul and rest of material possession one owns.
Zakat is meant for purifying the remaining property so that it is not classified as Al-Kanz (hoarded-money).
Ibn ‘Umar said “So when the Verses of Zakat were revealed, Allah made Zakat a purifier of the property.” – Sources Sahih al-Bukhari 1404
