456 – It is reported that Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
“I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say:
“When the words of Iqama are pronounced, do not come to it in a hurry, but come to it (with the usual step) and remain calm. Pray (starting with the rak’at that) you find, and what you miss, make up (on your own) for truly, when any of you leaves for prayer, he is already in prayer. [1] This hadith was narrated by Muslim 602. See hadith no. 369.
Sheikh al-Albani called the hadith authentic. See Saheeh al-jami ‘as-saghir 456.
[1] – This means that such a person receives the same reward as the one who actually prays.
