435 – It is reported that ‘Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“When two men come to you seeking judgement, do not judge for the first until you have heard the statement of the other.“
“إذا تقاضى إليك رجلان فلا تقض للأول حتى تسمع كلام الآخر فسوف تدري كيف تقضي”
(ت) عن علي.
This hadith was narrated by at-Tirmidhi 1331.
Sheikh al-Albani called the hadith good. See Saheeh al-jami ‘as-saghir 435.
Grade: Hasan in Sahih Al-Jami but Da’if in Irwa-ul-Ghaleel 8/226 by Sheikh Al-Albani. Zubair Ali Zai has also Weakened it.
The reason being Hanash bin Al-Mu’tamer one of the narrators is weak by majority including Imam adh-Dhahabi and others. Ibn Hibban said he narrated many strange ahadith until we stopped using him for evidence. Hence he is weak. And Allah Knows Best
Note: This hadith may not be proven from the words of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). However, the meaning may be correct. See the judgement of Solomon in Bukhari 3426
