“إذا أنفق الرجل على أهله نفقة و هو يحتسبها كانت له صدقة”
(حم ق ن) عن أبي مسعود.
402 – It is narrated from the words of Abu Mas’ud, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“If a man spends on his family (with the intention of having a reward from Allah) sincerely for Allah’s sake then it is a (kind of) alms-giving in reward for him [1] “.
This hadith was narrated by Ahmad 4/120, al-Bukhari 55, Muslim 1002, at-Tirmidhi 1965, al-Nasai 5/69 and in al-Kubra 2325, ad-Darimi 2664, Ibn Hibban 4238, al-Bayhaqi 4 / 178, at-Tabarani 17/195.

[1] – “Sadaqa” – voluntary assistance to those in need; alms. Both the Qur’an and the Sunnah encourage people to help those in need, promising a great reward from Allah for this. In this case, it is meant that a person who spends money on the maintenance of his family will receive the same reward as a person who spends his money on sadaqa.
