«إذا أتى أحدكم الصلاة والإمام على حال فليصنع كما يصنع الإمام» .

It is reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“If any of you comes to prayer and finds the imam in a certain position, then let him do what the imam does.” This hadith was narrated by at-Tirmidhi 591 from the words of ‘Ali ibn Abu Talib and Mu’az.
Sheikh al-Albani called the hadith authentic. See Saheeh al-jami ‘as-saghir 261.
