«إذا اشترى أحدكم الجارية فليقل: اللهم إني أسألك خيرها وخير ما جبلتها عليه وأعوذ بك من شرها وشر ما جبلتها عليه وليدع بالبركة, وإذا اشترى أحدكم بعيرا فليأخذ بذروة سنامه وليدع بالبركة وليقل مثل ذلك» .
(حسن) … [هـ] عن ابن عمرو. آداب الزفاف 19: خ في أفعال العباد, د, ك, هق, أبو يعلى)

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“If any of you buys a slave girl, let him say:

“ O Allah! , I ask you for the goodness within her and the goodness that You have made her inclined towards And I seek refuge with You from the evil within her and the evil that You have made her inclined towards”/ Allahumma inni as’aluka khairaha wa khaira ma jabaltaha alaihi, wa a’udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma jabaltaha alaihi / [1] , and ask for a blessing. And if one of you buys a camel, let him grab the top of its hump, ask for a blessing and say the same. ”

This hadith was narrated by Ibn Majah 2252 from the words of Ibn ‘Amr.

Sheikh al-Albani called the hadith good. See Sahih al-jami ‘as-saghir 341.

Grade: حسن

Can the above prayer be used when buying, say, a car? I suppose so, since the person who buys it wants to benefit from it and fears its harm. See “Adabu-z-zifaf”.

[1] This hadith clearly indicates that Allah is the creator of both good and evil. This hadith contradicts what the Mu’tazilites and others like them say – namely, that evil, allegedly, is not the creation of the Lord, the Blessed One and the Most High. However, the fact that Allah is the creator of evil does not contradict His perfection. On the contrary, it indicates His perfection, Blessed be He, the Most High. This is discussed in detail in the essays specially devoted to this topic. One of the best among them is Ibn al-Qayyim’s book “Shifa’ al-‘alil fi masa’il al-qada’ wa’l-qadar wa’l-hikma wa’l-ta’lil” (“Remedy for Those who Question on Matters Concerning Divine Decree, Predestination, Wisdom and Causality”). Those interested can refer to this essay.
